Our story
The quest to create a cup that works your beverages,
plus the planet
It all began with an obsession…
over bubble tea and coffee, coupled with a passion for sustainable living. As a habitual boba and latte drinker, our founder, Garren Lau, sought to find a solution to address the global plastic pollution and climate change crisis while enjoying his favorite sweet concoction and morning picker upper.
He was on his usual weekly boba run and noticed a pile of plastic cups and bottles pouring out of a garbage bin at his favorite boba shop. At the coffee shop directly across the street, he was looking at a spitting image – disposable cups overflowing from another trash can.
He was astonished by the amount of single-use cups…
that were being thrown out on both sides of the street, all coming from two shop to which the garbage cans were dedicated for. If two local shops were creating all that plastic waste which takes centuries to degrade, how much more is produced on a global scale? Imagine the trillions of plastics floating aimlessly in our beloved oceans, threatening the future of our planet.
He decided to roll up his sleeves…
and take a stance against the grain of throwaway culture. Pushing the boundaries of innovation, he set out to develop a look good and feel good reusable cup for all kinds of beverages, inspired by his love for boba and coffee. In early 2021, böbanc was born out of this vision – to create sustainable drinking vessels focusing on form and function without compromising style, to be loved and enjoyed by our community, again and again.
